Welcome to the Central Michigan Internet Exchange (CM-IX).

 

Established in 2024, CM-IX is a neutral platform designed to bring local traffic exchange and access to content networks directly to central Michigan. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) located at CM-IX ensure swift and efficient delivery of online content, leading to faster load times and an enriched online experience for residents and businesses alike. Whether you're an Internet Service Provider, content provider, local enterprise, government, financial, or educational institution, CM-IX welcomes you to join, connect locally, and contribute to the transformation of connectivity in central Michigan.

CM-IX is located in a carrier neutral data center in Mount Pleasant Michigan. Interconnection is possible at multiple points around central Michigan.

1G, 10G, 25G, and 100G ports are available to members on a redundant switch fabric.

No cross connect charges

SERVICES

Multilateral
Peering
Peer and exchange traffic with multiple members utilizing a single BGP session with one or two route servers, over the shared fabric using exchange IP space.

Use the provided BGP communities to control route policy if desired.
Bilateral
Peering
Peer and exchange traffic directly with individual members over the shared fabric, using exchange IP space.

Can be used in combination with multilateral peering.
Private
VLAN
Peer and exchange traffic with individual members over private VLANS, using member IP space.

Purchase transit or other services from members using private VLANS on the same IX port or separate ports.

VLAN ID's are assigned by the exchange.
Direct Content Access
Direct access to content networks.

Higher utilization of the exchange will increase the opportunity for adding additional content access.
Management Tools
The CM-IX portal contains tools to manage and monitor connection to the exchange. These include, looking glass, statistics, port information, member list with contact information and peer tracking.
Cost Free Support
CM-IX provides cost free support to local organizations interested in obtaining an ASN and address space but don't know where to start.

Configuration assistance for peering is also available upon request.

REQUIREMENTS

Membership is open to any organization meeting the following requirements:

  • Control of an AS Number

  • Control of IPv4 /24 or larger and/or IPv6 /48 or larger

  • Entry in peeringdb.com

  • Network access to CMS Internet DC1 Data Center, Mount Pleasant MI
